BAJA CALIFORNIA - WINE COUNTRY

The Baja California Wine Country is blessed wiht a Mediterranean climate, ideal for grape growing. There are few microclimates in Mexico that combine the unique  characteristics og elevation, soil, seasons, and temperature. And, of course, love for the art of winemaking.



The Kiliwa and Kumiai native people originally settled this region of Baja California. The first outsiders were Spanish missionaries and settlers from other  parts of Mexico, followed by inmmigrants from Russia and the rest of Europe. These diverse influences helped developed a unique character to the Baja California Wine Country.

DISCOVER BAJA CALIFORNIA

The State of Baja California is located in Northwestern Mexico at the northern part of the peninsula of the same name; it borders the United States to the north, the Colorado River and the Sea of Cortez to the east.
Due to it´s geographic location, Baja California is one of the most developed states in Mexico. It´s economic growth is higher than the national average, with tourism being one of the most outstanding activities and having the greatest potential.
 


The extraordinary historical past of Baja California is expressed in  it´s colonial missions, and cave paintings dating over a thousand years.
Baja California is know the world over for it´s excellent wines and dynamic brewing and maquiladora industries; it´s wide variety of flora  and fauna in deserts, mountains and valleys; as well as for the Gray Whale Sanctuary in the ocean  oasis of the Sea of Cortez. In addition, important sporting events are celebrated such as the “Baja 1000” off-road race and the “Newport-Ensenada Regatta”.



DESTINATIONS

The main destinations in Baja California are: Tijuana, Mexicali, Ensenada, Playas de Rosarito, Tecate, San Felipe, Bahía de los Ängeles and San Quintín.





TIJUANA

As part of the Tijuana-San Diego Binational region, Tijuana has a broad market of international products and services and a dynamic industrial base. Because of it´s cosmopolitan character, Tijuana has gained fame as the most visited city in the world, and there are diverse gastronomic, cultural and nightlife attractions, the picturesque Revolution Avenue, health and business services, to name just a few.


MEXICALI

The state capital and an important industrial and agricultural center, Mexicali possesses modern urban infrastructure and a warm climate. The main tourist points of interest are linked to gastronomy, game-hunting tourism, health, culture, business and the celebration of important events such as the Fiestas del Sol.


ENSENADA

One of the main tourism destinations in Baja California, Ensenada is an important stop over for the main cruise lines that operate in the Pacific Ocean, and is ideal for practicing water and adventure sports. Ensenada is also internationally renowned for it´s wine production, food, La Bufadora and Beautiful valleys.



PLAYAS DE ROSARITO

Rosarito Beach is an ideal destination for sun and beach tourism, with a wide variety of gastronomic, nightlife, water sports and service activities. Hotels and residential tourism developments are build on it´s coasts, demonstrating the important tourism dynamic of the area.
